When in Rome… – Examples

£ pointers to help you keep happy and safe...

1 Beach safety - sun and tide

Don't underestimate either the strength of the sun, or the power of the tide. Happy beach users are those with the greatest of respects for those two components of a beach holiday. Put lots of sun screen on, regularly, and please do cover up your children with hats and t-shirts..they will burn so much more easily than you, and the damage will last them forever. The sun is getting hotter - so we need to get smarter about its effect. Then you can get the holiday, the tan and the RnR you're looking for...

And heed the life guards, the flags, and the advice you may see everywhere about the strength of the sea. Don't forget - it's the Atlantic...! For more info go to The Destination Cornwall website or go to the Seasmart site...

2 Bring your own medication

If you take medication, please bring the supplies you need, to prevent huge strain on our local health services. It will be massively appreciated here, and you'll have a much better holiday if you don't find yourself having to make a doctor's appointment when you want to be doing something MUCH more interesting...

3 The Countryside Code reminds us all to protect, respect and enjoy: look after plants and animals: take litter away; leave gates and property as you find them; keep dogs under close control; and consider other people and users when visiting the countryside. And enjoy!

4 And lastly - there's so much to enjoy when you get to know the area a little better. Cornwall has a million secrets...ask the people where you're staying what local events and activities they can recommend, and then show your appreciation by buying local when you're there rather than mass-produced, low quality souvenirs. You'll get a better deal; and so will Cornwall...

Thank you!
